Current Undergraduate Students
Ben Salazar is an undergraduate research assistant for the spinal ligament characterization group. He is currently assisting the work on characterizing the constitutive response of the supraspinous ligament using a novel anisotropic small punch technique. He is studying Mechanical Engineering, will be graduating April 2014, and plans on getting his M.S. and MBA after graduation. He is from FL, loves the east coast, and has been married to his wife Hillary since December 2010.
Todd Nelson is an undergraduate research assistant working with the numerical analysis and finite element modeling group. He is working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. He plans to pursue biomedical engineering in graduate school. In his free time he enjoys being outdoors and fly fishing.
Corynn Call is in the Ligament Characterization Group.
Kara Boatwright is in the Ligament Characterization Group.
Trevor Stephens is a member of the numerical analysis and software group. He is an undergraduate studying mechanical engineering and will graduate in April 2014. After graduation he plans on pursuing a PhD in biomedical engineering."
Ryan Faber is a junior majoring in mechanical engineering. He is currently working on prototyping and comparison testing of compliant athletic padding that will be used for all kinds of sports applications. He enjoys playing soccer and doing just about any outdoor activity. After graduating with his BS degree, Ryan hopes to go to graduate school for an MS/MBA degree.
Amanda Beatty is a Junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering, and is in the Compliant Athletic Padding Group. She enjoys reading, trying out new recipes, and anything that has to do with Harry Potter. After graduating she hopes to find a job in San Diego, where she and her husband hope to end up.
Tyler Merrell is currently working on validation of an animal model. He is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering and plans to graduate in April 2014. He and his wife Summer have been married as of August 2012.
Melissa Barraza is in the spinal ligament characterization group and is currently working on validating the anisotropic small punch test technique. She is studying Mechanical Engineering and will graduate in April 2012.
Ashu Parajuli is an undergraduate student involved in a project that aims to develop a micro-structural grading system for the spinal ligaments. He is currently studying both the micro-structural and mechanical properties of the ligament tissues to see if there is a correlation between the two. Ashu is an international student from Nepal and aims to go to a graduate school here in the US to further understand the mechanics of soft tissues.
Brianna Modrell is an undergraduate studying Mechanical Engineering. After finishing her B.S. degree, she hopes to get her M.S. in Biomechanical Engineering. Currently, she is the President of BYU’s section of the Society of Women Engineers and works hard to support women in engineering. She is from Oregon and loves the Northwest. On her free-time, she loves to swim and go boating.
Weston Rowley is an undergraduate student working on finite element modeling of the lumbar spine. Weston will recieve his BS in Mechanical Engineering in December 2012 and plans on attending medical school.
Tyler Bleazard is a Junior persuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently working as a member of the complian medical devices team. He's been married to his wife Lacey since April of 2010.
Luke Rasmussen is an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is helping in the development of a ceramic stent and particularly verifying that the ceramic stent will be compatible with the blood. Luke plans on pursuing an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering
